Westchester County Executive George Latimer has announced his run for reelection in 2021 exclusively on News 12.
The dust has yet to clear from the 2020 elections, but buckle up - because Vote 2021 is officially here.
Latimer announced his final run for county executive - an announcement that typically would be made later in spring.
He says his four-year record is exceedingly strong, noting two years of property tax breaks, budgets without layoffs and service cuts and action taken swiftly amid mounting calls for social justice.
But, the first-term Democrat says his best argument for reelection lies in the leadership he's shown throughout the devastating COVID-19 crisis, which has claimed more than 1,700 lives in Westchester - the original U.S. epicenter of the global pandemic.
As for Republicans, the race is wide open. Last week, Dan Branda, a former advisor to Rob Astorino, dropped out of the running.
But here's an interesting fact - should Latimer score a victory this November, it will be his 20th consecutive political win - one of the longest winning streaks for any politician in New York state history.
Latimer is expected to formally announce his reelection campaign in a video on social media sometime Monday.
