State Assemblyman Greg Ball (R-Carmel) launched his re-election bid Sunday among supporters at Murphy's in Yorktown.

The freshman assemblyman was elected in 2006 on a platform promising legislative reform in Albany, which angered many incumbent Republicans and local officials. In a speech last year, Ball, who represents the state's 99th district, called the legislature "the most dysfunctional legislature in the country."

"I'm a maverick Republican," said Ball. "I came into this business from outside the political machine. That makes me a target for Albany insiders."

Democrats have not selected Ball's opponent.
