Westchester and Rockland counties kick off Juneteenth celebrations

Juneteenth is still a little less than three weeks away, but organizations are kicking off celebrations early in the Hudson Valley.
A Juneteenth virtual event was held Tuesday to mark the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. The event featured a keynote lecture from civil rights scholar and historian Doctor Larry Spruill.
It also included music and dance performances and presentations about upcoming local Juneteenth celebrations around Westchester and Rockland counties.
