Residents from West Harrison gathered at St. Anthony of Padua Church to share stories about Air National Guard Technical Sgt. and NYPD Detective Joseph Lemm, who was killed making the ultimate sacrifice.
The mourners were at the church following Lemm's funeral at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. The 45-year-old husband and father of two was one of six Americans killed last week in Afghanistan when his patrol was attacked by a suicide bomber. Lemm, who lived in West Harrison, was on his third tour of duty.
Laura Hart knew Lemm as a great friend and neighbor. Hart says she remembers being invited to the family's yacht club in the Bronx. Hart, who is a family friend, says the community is close-knit. She says when something happens, everybody comes out of the woodwork to show their love and support.
Hart says Lemm's wife is leaning on the community for support.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family. The site has already raised more than $18,000.
