The town of West Harrison mourned a beloved member of their community Wednesday after he was killed in a car accident earlier in the week. Jimmy Amodeo, 37, was made an honorary firefighter despite his mental disability. The town embraced Amodeo as a warm man who made everyone smile. A makeshift memorial symbolizes the feelings residents have over loss of their friend. Amodeo was killed when a car accidentally struck him on Underhill Avenue Monday. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, but died later as a result of his injuries.
Fellow firefighters say they will attend Amodeo?s wake and funeral. As a final honor, his name will be listed on the memorial board at the West Harrison Fire Department. His funeral will be on October 20 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Harrison.
