Nyack residents are taking advantage of local mom and pop stores, boutiques and pop-up restaurants on Small Business Saturday.
Marcella Mazzeo, owner of Salonniere Coffee Bar, is grateful for the customers who chose them over big coffee chains.
“You're supporting your community. We’re here selling our products, but we’re really selling the experience of community,” she said.
Bare Minimum Goods is a unique shop that offers items like shampoo bars, toothpaste tablets, reusable face pads. Unlike other stores, they also feature a refillery where customers can bring a bottle and fill up on products such as soaps, moisturizers, sunscreens, laundry detergents and body lotions.
"We are a sustainability store which means that we try to help people find alternatives to single-use plastic,” said owner Evelyn Leong.
Maria Luisa Whittingham, owner of Maria Luisa Boutique, believes shopping small is even more important during the holiday season.
“This is actually the quarter of the year where we make our money, this is the time of year we make more than half of the sales,” she said. “I understand the convenience of shopping without having to get out and go to a small community, but were here for you, servicing you and caring about your purchases.”
