Yellow Freight in Maybrook shut its doors Tuesday during widely reported financial problems for the Tennessee-based company and reports of bankruptcy.

Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy tells News 12 the company didn’t notify the village of their plans to close the Orange County location but confirmed that the facility is no longer in operation.

"We were given no notice...it’s unfortunate that YRC has succumbed to their financial difficulties. The YRC property is a prime piece of real estate with rail service directly behind. I’m sure this property will stir interest from many investors,” said Leahy.

The company is one of the largest trucking operations in the U.S. Its closure has resulted in a reported 30,000 layoffs nationwide.

County Executive Steve Neuhaus says the company has been "uncooperative" and is required by law to provide notice to the state Department of Labor and county 30 days prior to any action resulting in layoffs, but never did. 

“Our employment and training office could have gone to Yellow Freight and sat down with all the employees to get their information and start plugging them into other employers,” said Neuhaus. “I reached out to a trucking company in Orange County yesterday who said that there should be no problem absorbing the drivers.”
