A family of four was displaced after a fire broke out at their home in Nanuet early Sunday morning.
Ramon Romero and Melissa Espaillat say they were woken up by the fire at around 2:30 a.m. after hearing a loud bang outside their front door.
The parents say they immediately rushed to grab their 4- and 7-year-old sons once they realized that the fire completely destroyed the entire front of the house. They say they were able to escape through the back door.
Firefighters responded quickly and were able to put the fire out. No one was injured.
The family, who has been living in the home for six years, say they're just happy to be alive.
"The house and the material stuff we can deal with," Romero says. "The good thing is that we're still alive, we're still here and the kids are safe."
The couple says that they are still waiting for their insurance company to arrive to file a claim, so that they can have a temporary living situation.
