WATCH LIVE: Authorities hold press conference on New Rochelle police-involved shooting
Authorities are holding a news conference on a fatal police-involved shooting in New Rochelle.
BRIEFING NOTES:
- The New Rochelle mayor confirms the man killed in the shooting was Kamal Flowers, 24. He was living in the Heritage Homes in New Rochelle.
 - Officials say there was a call from the Heritage Homes about a vehicle moving in an unusual fashion Wednesday night. The car was then flagged.
- They say that Friday night, an unmarked police car with two officers in it pulled over the vehicle. Officials say that Flowers exited out the passenger's side of the vehicle, then ran on foot.
- They say that the officers perceived that Flowers had a weapon, and one of the officers had fired a Taser at him. The officer then fired at him six times after the Taser was ineffective.
- The mayor says one of the shots hit Flower in his armpit, which then traveled to his heart. He was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle where he was declared dead.
- The mayor says an audio tape of the event will be released to the press and public. There is also a video tape, but the mayor says it is blurry and will need to be enhanced. It will also be released to the public.
- The mayor says he believes the investigation should be handled by the state Attorney General. The investigation is being handled by both the District Attorney and the Attorney General.
- Officials say this is the first time in seven years that a New Rochelle police officer fired their weapon.
- They say the officers did not have body cameras at the time of the incident.
