The Wappingers Central School District says Superintendent Jose Carrion is retiring.
At a special meeting last night, the school board appointed Assistant Superintendent Dwight Bonk as acting superintendent.
No reason was given for the change, but it came one day after parents held a protest outside school district headquarters. They were angry that the district had left them out of the conversation, and that hybrid learning would be delayed for middle and high school students.
Bonk says he will continue to be very accessible and will be listening to all sides.
