Yonkers has earned the title of the second safest city in the United States, according to WalletHub's annual Safest Cities report.

The company compared nearly 200 cities across the country, scoring each city on factors such as community safety. The company also placed the heaviest weight on factors like mass shootings and murders per capita.

Yonkers saw only one homicide in 2018. So far this year, the city has had five homicides, according to the police department.

Last year, rape crimes were down 14%, robberies went down 22% and shootings decreased 46%, compared to the year before.

Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller says the city's high ranking is all in thanks to the police department's work in the community.
