Family and friends gathered in Mount Kisco Thursday for the wake of Cortlandt man killed while kayaking.

Twenty-year-old Mauricio Michilena died Tuesday during what police say was a kayaking trip with friends on Blue Heron Lake. Police say Michilena's kayak flipped over while Michilena and another person were inside. The other person made it to shore safely, but Michilena did not. Police say the group was partaking in underage drinking, but Michilena's consumption is unknown.

His family and friends say he was a good swimmer and are having a hard time coping with his death. The assistant principal of Fox Lane High School, where Michilena once attended, says he was a promising student as well as a wrestling star.

Michilena's funeral will be held at Saint Francis Church in Mount Kisco on Friday.
