The community of Yorktown gathered on Monday night for the wake of Town Supervisor Thomas Diana at Yorktown Funeral Home.
According to a town spokesperson, Diana died last week of an apparent heart attack at his home.
He died just four days after he was sworn into his first full term.
Diana presided over the first town board meeting of the new year just last Tuesday.
At the wake, News 12 caught up with Diana's youngest daughter, Briana Morano, to learn how his family is remembering him.
"He wanted the best for all the people in his life, and all [of] the relationships he had. It's overwhelming the outpouring of love and support that's been shown over the last three days. It goes without saying how much we're going to miss him," Morano said.
A Mass commemorating Diana's life is scheduled at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton on Tuesday.
That service is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. and will be followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery.
