Election officials are asking voters to be patient on Election Day and to expect long lines.

The polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 9 pm.

Jim Scheuerman, the Nasau County Board of Elections Democratic commissioner, says voters are not permitted to take a picture of their ballot inside the voting booth and post it online.

He also asks that voters refrain from recording video or taking pictures inside the polling place.

"You may end up offending someone on line who doesn't want to be seen, so it’s best to just get in, keep to yourself, (after you vote) go outside and outside of 100 feet, you can take all (the) voter photos you want and take a picture of your ‘I Voted’ sticker." said Scheuerman.

Voters are also prohibited from wearing clothes, hats or other articles with a candidate's name on it or a campaign message.

As long as you're inside the polling place or on line by 9 p.m., you will get to vote.

"An inspector will go to the back of the line. They become the back of the line and then the polls will be open until everyone gets a chance to vote." said Scheuerman.

Residents don't need to show identification to vote in-person, but they must vote at their assigned polling location.

Remember to flip your ballot over on Election Day to answer "yes" or "no" to the proposal questions on the back.
