News 12's Tara Rosenblum caught up with the candidates in the Hudson Valley's 18th Congressional District - a local race with national implications.
The race is considered to be a crucial battleground and one of the most competitive of all the Democratic-held districts in New York.
Freshman Democrat and Iraqi war veteran Rep. Pat Ryan is fighting to defend his seat against two Republicans - entrepreneur Lovelynn Gwinn and 25-year NYPD veteran Alison Esposito. Esposito launched her campaign after losing a statewide race for lieutenant governor.
Both Ryan and Esposito discussed their campaigns with News 12. Lovelynn Gwinn did not return News 12's interview request.
