More than 50 residents and neighbors spent the day cleaning a housing complex that has long been associated with crime.
Everyone from residents to local church groups gave a helping hand Saturday during an outdoor cleanup of the Schlobohm Houses in Yonkers.
The housing complex's history of high crime helped spearhead a movement to desegregate the city in the 1980s, an effort prominently featured in the recent HBO documentary "Show me a Hero."
The cleanup will continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be heading indoors to clean the complex's hallways and public areas.
