Volunteers are laying wreaths at the graves of American soldiers this weekend across Westchester.
Community members gathered at seven different cemeteries in Westchester for the Wreaths Across America ceremony.
Rev. Liz Wold attended the event at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne to honor her nephew Army Private First Class Owen David Witt who died in 2004 while serving in Iraq.
“It's a thank you and it's to tell people and ourselves to never forget the sacrifice these men and woman have made for us,” says Rev. Wold.
The ceremony honoring veterans started back in 1992. Now, volunteers across the country lay more than 700,000 wreaths.
