Volunteer firefighters from more than 20 fire companies from around Westchester County were honored in Tarrytown Saturday afternoon at the annual Westchester County Volunteer Firefighters Association Convention and Parade.
The Tarrytown Fire Department hosted the event, which was the culmination of three days of celebrations, with the big draw being the parade along Broadway and Main Street.
This year's parade held special meaning for the Kendrick family, of Tarrytown. Jaden Kendrick has his heart set on a career in firefighting.
"I always thought of firefighting as an interesting career choice. You get the opportunity of helping people and making new friends," he said.
His mother, Sue, couldn't had been more proud of the firefighters who marched in the parade and the path that her son has chosen.
"I think it's wonderful. It's an all-volunteer service in Tarrytown. It gives a purpose to your community. It's above satisfaction to save lives," she added.
