In a special Road Trip: Close to Home, not only is News 12’s Nikita Ramos highlighting one of the best spots in the Hudson Valley, but is allowing a News 12 viewer to choose the destination!
Ron reached out on Twitter and said Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown Heights has a lot to offer. “Just a chance to relax and decompress and walk around it’s the perfect spot to do that,” says FDR State Park Manager Robert Guarino.
A good place to stop before the sun gets too strong is the park’s disc golf course. “This course is a nice mix of woods on the front nine and the back nine it’s nice and open so there’s a big open spot for shots,” says Eric Mowry, of Beacon.
Because of coronavirus restrictions, you’ll just have to remember to bring your own discs to play.
After golf, it’s time for a hike. There are seven miles of trails that meander through lush green woods.
Afterwards, you can cool off in the largest pool of all of the New York State parks. Just remember, they’re limiting pool capacity to less than 50%. “It’s like massive. So we can have a little section to ourselves to swim around in and it’s really nice and enjoyable,” says Shane Larkin, of the Bronx.
And finally, you can wrap up your day out on the lake. Bring your own kayak or canoe to the boat launch and let the calm current take your worries away.
Thanks to Ron for the suggestion! If you would like to help plan our next road trip, send your suggestions to Nikita Ramos on her
