Police report a vicious dog attack in North Salem that sent two women to the hospital and left the dog shot to death.Emergency responders say they arrived at 112 Delancy Road in North Salem Friday afternoon as the women were being mauled by what is believed to be a pit bull. State police say they were forced to shoot and kill the dog as it lunged at an officer who heroically jumped in to help the women. One victim was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by ambulance, the other victim was airlifted from the scene. Both women are in stable condition.Neighbors say they did not hear the attack because of the thick woods between each house. Police are investigating who owns the dog and what provoked the incident. This is the third violent dog attack in the Hudson Valley this fall. On October 19, a woman was mauled by a dog in Hillcrest. Earlier that month a woman was killed by a pit bull in Ramapo.
