The owner of a Spanish-American deli says his store was severely damaged by vandals just three weeks after opening.
Peter Riotis, the owner of the deli at 1610 Crosby Ave., says the incident was a bias attack. He believes some in the predominantly Italian neighborhood don't want a Spanish-American deli.
Riotis says he is now facing $40,000 in damages. In addition to the paint that was sprayed on the outside of the store, Riotis says burglars stole $500 worth of calling cards, cash and poured bleach all over the store.
He hopes to reopen by Thanksgiving.
