A Westchester legislator is demanding answers Tuesday from Con Edison and NYSEG as to why homes and businesses were left in the dark so long during last week?s storm.

Legislator Michael Kaplowitz (D-Somers) says the response by the utility companies was unacceptable and wants to launch an investigation into why the companies were not better prepared to deal with the aftermath of the powerful storm. Kaplowitz is joined by other local lawmakers who want the incident to be a catalyst for change.

NYSEG officials defended their response to the storm, claiming it worked around the clock to restore power to 90 percent of its customers within 48 hours. There will be a public hearing on the response to the storm on January 30 with lawmakers and representatives from both Con Edison and NYSEG.
