A car crime spree that included four vehicle thefts has left residents of the affluent Rosedale section of White Plains on edge, and the suspect remains on the loose.
One vehicle owner woke up Tuesday morning to find her car door open. "She got nervous when she got up and saw the car was open," says neighbor Domanica Panzarella. "Right away she went inside and called her husband. Then she came and rang my bell and told me about it. We're scared because it's a good neighborhood and we want to keep it that way."
Vehicles were ransacked and some were stolen overnight in the area of Carrigan Avenue, Hubbard Drive and Sparrow Circle.
"All the cars were unlocked; there was no damage to the cars, no forced entry," says Capt. Joseph Castelli, of the White Plains Police Department. "The cars that were stolen -- apparently all the keys were in the vehicles."
Capt. Castelli says it isn't uncommon for people to report that their unlocked vehicles have been ransacked, but he says it is uncommon for many people to leave their car keys in their unlocked vehicles. "Do not leave keys in it and don't leave any property in there that you don't want stolen," he says.
