South Brunswick students were told to bring bottled water to school Wednesday after a water main break in town prompted a boil water advisory.

The district said the water fountains have been turned off as a precaution, and officials said the advisory will remain in effect until further notice. The main break happened Tuesday morning on Route 1 at Dow Jones Road, and crews were in the area making repairs.

Township officials said some customers may have low water pressure, and the advisory will be lifted once water samples are tested and deemed safe.

Customers were told to use bottled water or boil tap water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, washing produce or dishes, making ice, or brushing teeth. Officials said most home water filters do not protect against microorganisms.
