The United Nations celebrates its 80th anniversary.
The U.N. flag was raised at the Norwalk City Hall.
"The importance of having the United Nations in the world is to help foster relations with all the different countries on bigger problems such as climate change, pollution that type of thing because one country can't just do it all by itself," said Derrick Demarche, with the Board of Directors of UNA-SWCT.
Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling declared a proclamation for the U.N., recognizing international peace and security.
The U.N. Association Southwest Connecticut Chapter said it will be holding events in Westport and Weston for the 80th anniversary.
