Fire crews fought two major fires in Hudson County Wednesday morning, only about 3 miles apart in neighboring towns.
A fire happened around 10 a.m. on Bergenline Avenue between 10th and 11th streets in Union City.
Firefighters, some on neighboring rooftops, tried to contain the smoke and flames that continued to pour from homes.
Just a few hours earlier, firefighters also battled a huge fire, only about 3 miles away, also on Bergenline Avenue. This fire happened in West New York at 61st Street. Several families were displaced, and numerous businesses were destroyed.
“We have a pizzeria, we have an ice cream shop, we have a nail salon, we have a beauty supply store and an electronic shop amongst the ones that are right in the middle where the fire was at its worst,” said West New York Mayor Gabriel Rodriguez.
Chopper 12 showed how extensive the damage in West New York is. Red Cross officials say 25 people from 11 families are displaced from the West New York fire.
There is still no word on how many people are displaced from the Union City fire. There are no injuries to report.
There is no official word on how the fires started.
