The union representing the Yonkers Fire Department has passed a vote of no confidence in Commissioner John Darcy.
The vote comes after witnesses say Commissioner Darcy threw Lt. Michael O'Connor to the ground during a Christmas party at the Fairways at Dunwoodie.
The incident occurred Dec. 11, when O'Connor tossed a cloth napkin that mistakenly hit Darcy in the eye. A city spokesperson says Darcy was disoriented and felt he was being attacked.
Yonkers police investigated the incident and no criminal charges were filed. However, both men were later suspended without pay.
The Uniformed Firefighters Union representing O'Connor says it plans to appeal his suspension.
Mayor Mike Spano says Darcy, who has more than 30 years on the job, has a spotless record.
"Commissioner Darcy will keep his job providing he continues to do the hard work he is doing," says Spano.
