The State Education Department and the Yonkers school superintendent have launched an investigation into possible tampering with state-mandated tests.
Two school principals have been removed and dozens of state- mandated tests tossed out after Yonkers School Superintendent Bernard Pierorazio learned about unusual changes made to several dozen fourth-grade English Language Arts tests taken in January. The two principals under suspicion are Raymond Del Maestro of the Casimir Pulaski School and Marilyn Walder of School 29. Both schools recently got top honors for academic achievements.
Pierorazio says the integrity of the district is at stake and a violation of the public trust may have occurred. Many concerned parents came to a meeting Thursday with Pierorazio. The district refused to comment further while the investigation is underway.
