Two families were forced out of their Yonkers home this morning after an overnight fire.
Dozens of Yonkers firefighters were called to a multi-family home at 43 Sherwood Ave. about 12:30 a.m. today after a fire broke out on the second floor.
Two families living in the building on the first and second floors were able to get out safely. The third floor was unoccupied.
It took about 50 firefighters 15 minutes to put out the flames as a ladder had to be brought out to fight the fire. Crews say the second floor became very slippery and at least four firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the flames.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze, but say the fire started in a closet. "In a closet; it's unusual that you'd have a fire in a closet," says Assistant Fire Chief Robert Antulov.
