You know the popular Christmas carol: “On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me…”
Well, it’s 2023 and even the partridge in a pear tree has been impacted by inflation.
So, just how much do “The Twelve Days of Christmas” cost this year? PNC did the math and it’s $46,729.86.
For 40 years, PNC has calculated what it would cost to buy all the gifts in the song as part of the Christmas Price Index.
Over the years, PNC says the index has risen and fallen with the economy and consumer sentiment. When it launched, the total cost to buy all 12 gifts was $20,023.57.
The cost of four calling birds, five gold rings, seven swans-a-swimming, eight maids-a-milking, and nine ladies dancing all remained around the same price.
Two turtle doves jumped 25%. PNC says this increase is due to their food getting more expensive.
The pear tree will cost 15% more this Christmas, but at least the price of a partridge did not change. And the cost of drummers to hire went up slightly.
