A Tuckahoe police officer was critically injured Friday after he was hit by a tractor-trailer on Winter Hill Road during a traffic stop.
According to Lt. Kevin Ferry, of the Tuckahoe Police Department, the incident happened at around 10:30 a.m. when Officer Frederick Cioffi was performing a seatbelt check and talking to a driver. That is when police say Cioffi was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer that was trying to make a left turn up Midland Avenue.
Cioffi, a decorated 10-year veteran of the Tuckahoe Police Department, suffered a broken leg, a broken pelvis and three broken ribs.
As of Friday evening, no charges have been filed against the truck driver in connection to the accident.
