Republican rivals Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz took to social media to continue an argument that started on stage Thursday night at the latest GOP debate.
Cruz took a swipe at Trump at the debate, saying he represents "New York values," where people are "focused on money and the media." The comments have infuriated many voters in the Hudson Valley and around the state.
On Saturday morning, Trump fired off a series of tweets attacking Cruz's eligibility to be president and questioning his finances before tweeting a picture of the aftermath of Sept. 11, asking, "Is this the New York that Ted Cruz is talking about and demeaning?"
Cruz fired back, saying Trump is just upset that he lost to him in a recent poll. He also tweeted a link to a past interview in which Trump used the words "New York values."
Trump's defense of the Empire State has gained him some unlikely supporters.
Cruz offered a tongue-in-cheek "apology" to the state of New York, saying "I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by liberal politicians in that state."
Both Trump and Cruz were set to speak at the fifth annual South Carolina Tea Party Coalition Convention Saturday in Myrtle Beach, with the animosity between the two coming just two weeks before the first votes are cast in the Iowa caucuses.
