Close to half a million Americans just recently signed up for the Affordable Care Act after losing their jobs and their health insurance during the pandemic. But the Trump administration is pushing to overturn Obamacare.
Late Thursday night, the Justice Department asked the Supreme Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act.
New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand condemned the move amid the coronavirus pandemic and as unemployment skyrockets.
Ending the landmark health care law that provides millions of Americans access to health insurance would impact community health centers, which primarily service low income families, says Rose Duhan, with the Community Health Care Association of New York State.
She says many neighborhood health centers saw a surge in new patients following the implementation of Obamacare.
Gillibrand says instead of doing away with Obamacare, the country should be moving toward providing more options for health care coverage.
The Supreme Court is expected to announce its decision just after the election.
