An oil truck spilled hundreds of gallons onto Bronx River Road in Yonkers Saturday.
The oil truck was making a delivery at 125 Bronx River Road when it began dumping oil onto the road around 8 a.m.
Dozens of firefighters in hazmat gear worked to contain over 1,500 gallons of oil spilled onto the road. That oil made its way into the Bronx River where crews set up a floating barrier to try and stop it from going upstream.
The tanker's owner, Bronx-based JM Trucking, released a statement, saying "We're very sad it happened. We're making every effort to clean it up."
The cause of the leak is under investigation.
Bronx River Road between New Place and Wakefield Avenue has been closed as the cleanup continues.
The state Department of Environmental conservation also released a statement saying they will "oversee the ongoing clean-up of the spill and investigation into potential contamination of the Bronx River."
