Police officials say the Taconic State Parkway was shut down in both directions for hours Monday after an 18-wheeler hit an overpass.
Authorities say the driver of the 18-wheeler didn't stop after hitting the overpass but kept going for another five miles, ultimately losing control of the truck and jackknifing at a curve.
The driver told troopers he was following his GPS device and didn't see signs prohibiting trucks along where he crashed on the parkway. The driver now faces thousands of dollars in fines.
