A tribute was held on Monday for a woman who was a long-time public servant in Rockland County.

Clarkstown dedicated a meeting room in the town hall to Shirley Thormann - an 88-year-old Valley Cottage woman who died in August 2020.

Thormann was the first woman to serve on the town planning board in 1974. She would return in 2005 to become the first chairwoman.

"Quick-witted and smart as a whip, Shirley Thormann was a true leader who represented the best in us in giving back to those around her and to the community," said Thormann's daughter Johanna.
