Plans for the new Yankee Stadium include changes to the parkland and the removal of hundreds of trees in the area surrounding the stadium in the Bronx.

At a City Council hearing Monday, a city Parks Department spokesman reportedly described a plan to spend $14 million to replace all of the trees around the proposed stadium. According to the Daily News, the plan calls for several varieties to replace the actual amount of wood of the original trees and not just plant saplings in place of mature trees.

Opponents of the stadium say the city?s tree replacement plan doesn?t make up for the loss. They say some of the trees are 75 years old and it may take up to 20 years before the replacement trees mature.

The National Park Service still needs to approve the replacement tree plan.
