Friends and family members of people killed in deadly crimes gathered Friday night in Wakefield to celebrate their loved ones' lives through a special holiday tradition.
The "Tree of Angels" tree lighting is organized by the Crime Victims Assistance Unit of the Bronx County District Attorney's Office. Loved ones of homicide victims were encouraged to hang an angel ornament on the tree.
One participant who lost a family member to homicide says the Tree of Angels is a comforting place to cherish loved ones' memories.
Organizers say the tree lighting is a small but meaningful way to provide a little bit of peace during the holidays.
