Train strikes unoccupied vehicle stuck on tracks in Congers

Officers responded around 2:45 a.m. to Lake Road, where a vehicle had become stuck on the crossing.

A vehicle stuck on railroad tracks in Congers was struck by a train early this morning.

Officers responded around 2:45 a.m. to Lake Road, where a vehicle had become stuck on the crossing. Police said the sole occupant was able to get out safely before a southbound train hit the vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

The Lake Road railroad crossing was closed while crews work to remove the vehicle and complete a safety inspection of the tracks. The road has snice reopened

Authorities said the Kings Highway crossing was not affected and remained open.
