A routine traffic stop in Hillcrest resulted in a much bigger arrest for Ramapo police this weekend.
Police say they pulled a car over on Route 45 and not only smelled marijuana coming from the car, but noticed that one of the occupants in the car had bloody hands. As the officer was talking to the people in the car, he was alerted to a robbery that had taken place just moments earlier near where the traffic stop was made.
There were five people in the car, three juveniles and two adults. Two of them were identified by the victim of the robbery. During a search of the car, police found stolen property such as mace, a police baton and a gun.
All five were arrested and charged with attempted robbery and possession of stolen property. Police say more charges could be added.
