Motorists encountered traffic delays and road closures in and around the Village of Irvington during President Joe Biden's visit to the area Thursday for a high-profile campaign fundraiser.
The president arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 4:30 p.m. and flew to the Westchester County Airport, where he arrived around 5:45 p.m. He was at the fundraiser until about 7:30 p.m. He then departed from Westchester County Airport and headed to the Wall Street landing zone.
Westchester County officials announced a closure of Broadway (Route 9) from White Plains Road (Route 119) in Tarrytown to the Village of Irvington in anticipation of Biden's visit. The road closure, which lasted until 7 p.m., also caused detours and delays for some Bee-Line buses.
Other road closures were not announced due to security reasons. Police advised residents to prepare for traffic delays and road closures, not just in Irvington, but also in the surrounding areas, including major roadways.
Biden visited Irvington for a star-studded and upscale fundraiser, with actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, fashion designer Eileen Fisher and Wall Street attorney Rodge Cohen listed as hosts.
Attendance prices ranged from $3,300 for one person to $100,000 for top donors.
Several school districts in the area also adjusted their schedules, with early releases and canceled after-school activities.
This marked Biden's third visit to the area since 2022.
Irvington village offices including the Recreation Department, Village Justice Court and the Irvington Library closed at 1 p.m. ahead of Biden's arrival.
