A huge construction project is set to begin today on a section of the Saw Mill River Parkway that will affect thousands of drivers.
The parkway will be reduced to one lane in both directions for about eight months.
Workers will replace and widen bridges that carry the parkway over the Saw Mill River near the Marble Ave Exit. This section of the Saw Mill is prone to flooding so crews will be making drainage improvements as well as elevating the road, according to state officials.
Back in 2013, crews raised a portion of the parkway in the area by about three inches to try and reduce flooding, but it's still been a problem.
The work is part of a $115 million state-funded project focusing on various bridge and road improvements in Westchester, and it's slated to be finished in late 2022.
State DOT officials are reminding drivers to slow down when going through the construction zone. There will be traffic so you might want to think about another route.
