5ds agoA traffic alert has been issued due to the construction of a new pedestrian/bicycle bridge, which will cause new traffic patterns in Tarrytown for the next few weeks.
Tuesday night, crews began setting up a new temporary traffic pattern from just north of Route 119 past Paulding Avenue. Starting today, four lanes will be open—two in each direction.
The reason for this change is to allow crews to begin the on-site assembly of a new 270-foot-long pedestrian/bicycle bridge. This bridge will extend the pathway to other Tarrytown attractions like the Lyndhurst Mansion, the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail, and the Riverwalk.
Additionally, a second left-turn lane will be added from South Broadway to the southbound Thruway entrance ramp, and a traffic signal will be installed on Route 9 at Paulding Avenue to make it safer to turn left.
This new bridge is part of a $13.9 million project funded by both the New York State Thruway Authority and the Department of Transportation. This portion of the project is expected to take six weeks. The speed limit in the area will be 25 miles per hour, so motorists need to drive cautiously and allow extra time to navigate through the area.
