A tractor-trailer crashed into two homes in Carteret Wednesday afternoon, narrowly missing some children who were playing in their backyard.
The incident happened on Chrome Avenue near Passaic Street and West Middlesex Avenue around 12 p.m.
Odalys Vasquez tells News 12 New Jersey that her kids were outside playing soccer when truck crashed into their fence and through their backyard before crashing into the back of 10 Chrome Ave., the home across the street. A woman was inside the Chrome Avenue home at the time.
“They came running and crying and scared. I just saw the truck pass through,” says Vasquez.
The brother of the woman who lives in 10 Chrome Ave. tells News 12 that she has lived there for more than 30 years. He says that she was not hurt, just shaken up.
Carteret officials wrote on social media that the driver of the tractor-trailer had a medical incident before crashing into the homes. However, neighbors say there’s always been concern about the amount of traffic nearby.
“It’s very busy, there’s a lot of trucks passing and there’s always big noises of the trucks, but I never thought that this was going to happen,” Vasquez says.
The truck was used by the company Porky Products. News 12 reached out to them for more information but did not hear back.
