A tornado ripped a path of destruction through Westchester County Wednesday.
Officials say one of the hardest hit was the Hawthorne area in Mount Pleasant, where state police confirm three people suffered minor injuries in a partial warehouse collapse. A spokesman for Westchester County's Emergency Management says cars were flipped over on the Route 9A corridor. Police say a funnel cloud there picked up a police cruiser. The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The weather knocked down trees and power lines, causing damage to houses and closing roads. About 5,600 homes are still without power. There are also reports of damage in Valhalla, Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown.
The violent storm caused Metro-North to temporarily suspend service after two large trees fell, blocking both tracks of the Upper Harlem Line between the Valhalla and Hawthorne stations. Trains resumed moving through the area at 5:20 p.m.
