News 12's Lisa LaRocca is in Thunderbolt 12 checking on roadways as a powerful winter storm brings rain, sleet and snow to parts of the Hudson Valley.
Orange County was hit by a wintry mix of snow, rain and sleet, but LaRocca says roads weren't all that bad today.
Roads were for the most part clear of snow, especially with temperatures hovering around 34 degrees - cold enough to form icy spots here and there.
AAA say tricky conditions like this can make winter driving so dangerous. "We have to make adjustments as we get into these bad weather conditions," says Robert Sinclair, Jr., of AAA.
Sinclair recommends keeping a good emergency kit packed in your car. "A good safety kit would include some basic tools screwdrivers and pliers and duct tape, blankets, water, shovel, something to enhance traction like sand or kitty litter. But probably the most important thing that you need to have is a charged cellphone so that you can call for help in case something happens."
