Three teens are facing arson charges in connection with two Mamaroneck High School fires that occurred last week.
Hector Velasquez and Eduardo Cornejo, both 16, were arraigned in village court Tuesday night. The pair is accused of setting a gym mat on fire in the locker room, causing extensive damage. Another student speculated they set the fire as a prank to get out of finals. Police also arrested 16-year-old Juretta Green in connection with a trash can fire in a stairwell.
All three teens are being charged as adults. Bail for Velasquez and Cornejo was set at $50,000. The two are being held at the county jail, but officials expect they will be transferred to a Mount Vernon youth shelter Wednesday morning because of their age. Green was released on an appearance ticket. Her mother, a Valhalla cop, says her daughter did not set the fire, but indicated she may know who did.
