Orange County officials are trying to keep up with the demand for COVID-19 testing kits as cases continue to surge.
Officials say they distributed 20,000 kits on Thursday.
The demand for the kits has people waiting for hours in their cars hoping to receive one.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says they had 3,000 cases at the height of the pandemic. Now they have 11,000 cases.
Despite the high number of cases, Neuhaus says the vaccines are working.
“I’ve had five people die in the last seven days, and all five are not vaccinated,” says Neuhaus. “Back in the height of the pandemic, I was talking about 10, 20 people dying a day.”
Officials in Orange County say they are expecting more testing kits. Once those kits arrive, they will announce the date and location of their second distribution.
