The Labor Day weekend is here and people are hitting the roads. According to AAA, thousands of people will be traveling between Friday and Monday.
News 12 crews talked to some holiday travelers at the Ardsley rest stop who are getting a head start on their weekend travel. Some people are worried about traffic and gas prices.
One couple said they aren’t letting that interfere with their plans.
“We know where to go for the lower prices locally, so we have one gas station that we always to and we know is cheaper than the other ones around,” Maureen Ferrara, a holiday traveler, said.
According to AAA, the average gas price in Westchester County right now is $3.70. During Labor Day weekend in 2023, the average price in the county was $3.97.
But, travelers say prices are still too high.
Travelers say they’re also concerned about holiday traffic returning home on Sunday and Monday. They’re planning to hit the roads early to avoid it.
