A Westchester family says that two of their relatives' Veterans Affairs-issued bronze plaques from World War II were snatched from their grave markers.
Al Tandy says he visits the gravesite of his father at Saint Patrick's Cemetery and grandfather in nearby Montrose on Veterans Day every year. But this year, special fixtures at both men's sites were missing.
Tandy's sister Susan made the discovery Tuesday after flying in from North Carolina to pay tribute to her family members.
Police are now investigating the thefts. In the meantime, the family says they were told the VA will be able to replace the plaques free of charge.
